Your Heart’s Desire is Its Own Proof: Reject the Cult of Certainty

Why you can’t think your way through an emotional question.

One of the most common questions people ask me when we are deep into the questions about their life’s path is, “But how will I know, like truly know?”

In some ways it is an excellent question. Many of us were raised and live in a cognitively-focused culture, the brain privileged above all else. Prove it to me, baby. Build the case. Show me the evidence.

The tricky part is as humans we have access to so much more wisdom through additional channels: emotional wisdom, physical wisdom, and energetic wisdom. We have simply been taught that these sources of wisdom are lesser, not to be trusted. Have you ever considered why that is?

We have simply been taught that these sources of wisdom are lesser, not to be trusted. Have you ever considered why that is?

The wisdom sourced from our hearts, bodies, and intuition is both powerful and mysterious. You can’t corral it. You can’t claim dominion over it. You can’t shape it into nice, neat little provable boxes. Emotional, somatic, and intuitive wisdom are each innate, primal, and irrepressible. We all have the capacity to tap into emotional, somatic, and intuitive wisdom. Further, often it can counter the wisdom of our brains or the cultural messaging. It leaves us thinking: What then?

Emotional, somatic, and intuitive wisdom are each innate, primal, and irrepressible.

These types of wisdom are intrinsic and essential features of the human experience. And when you are attempting to control groups of people, even for their “own good” through cognitive “truths” you can expect that hearts, bodies, and intuition may guide them in divergent and countless directions. Every human is their own universe.

Every human is their own universe.

It makes sense then that structures based in power and control, such as governments, structured religions, and corporations create their own brand of the “truth.” Do it this way and you can relax from all that uncertainty. Here’s your certainty right here: God wants you to do this. Your country wants you to do that. When you buy this all your problems will evaporate.

So it is unsurprising to me that even when I am presenting to groups of edge-seekers and visionaries, they still want to KNOW. We all crave certainty because the certainty translates to safety in our bodies. When we know we can prepare. When we know we can stand down. Yet it is important to recognize that despite the fact that certainty doesn’t exist on this human journey, it is still commodified and propagandized as the answer to all our problems.

What happens when we take in that provocative and challenging truth that there is no certainty and accept that when we have access to and ordain our emotional, somatic, and intuitive wisdom as useful guidance, uncertainty can feel less confronting and more creative.

Without uncertainty there is no opportunity for change. Without uncertainty there is no potential to push your edge and expand your consciousness.

When we free ourselves from the cult of certainty, we can dance in the creative moment with all the sources of wisdom available in this human experience. We don’t even need to jettison the cognitive wisdom. That wisdom is useful too. Although we may need to undomesticate our thinking from the this-way-is-the-right-way brainwashing of the power and control systems before it can be of honest use to our personal truth.

When we free ourselves from the cult of certainty, we can dance in the creative moment with all the sources of wisdom available in this human experience.

So I welcome the question: “But how do I KNOW?” That question opens the door to the path to reclaiming all facets of the wisdom innate in your consciousness. The exquisite and apropos phrase, open your mind, is a dynamic invitation into consciousness design. When we recalibrate our human physics to regulate our meatsuits, countenance our fullest genius, and trust our comprehensive wisdom, creation from our unique personal knowing can set us free.
